Hailed as one of the greatest science fiction writers of all time, Robert A. Heinlein pens fast-moving, action-packed tales. In this thrilling best-seller, he fast forwards to a controversial future world where law and order are harshly enforced, and only the ex-military can gain citizenship. Right out of high school, Johnny Rico enlists in the elite fraternity of the Mobile Infantry of planet Terra, once known as Earth. After weeks of the dangerously rugged bootcamp, Johnny is looking forward to some rest and relaxation. But when horrifying communist aliens attack Terran colonies, the entire human race becomes engaged in a terrifying struggle for survival. Starship Troopers is acclaimed as a science-fiction classic and has been made into a popular motion picture. Intergalactic war and daring invasions explode from the pages with narrator George Wilson’s dramatic performance.

The historians can’t seem to settle whether to call this one “The Third Space War” (or the fourth), or whether “The First Interstellar War” fits it better. We just call it “The Bug War.” Everything up to then and still later were “incidents,” “patrols,” or “police actions.” However, you are just as dead if you buy the farm in an “incident” as you are if you buy it in a declared war…

In one of Robert A. Heinlein’s most controversial bestsellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the Universe—and into battle with the Terran Mobile Infantry against mankind’s most alarming enemy.

With Earth embroiled in a vast interplanetary war with the “Bugs,” a young recruit in the Federal Reserves relates his experiences training in boot camp and as a junior officer in the Terran Mobile Infantry.

It is told through the eyes of Starship Trooper Johnny Rico, from his idealistic enlistment in the infantry of the future, through his rigorous training to the command of his own platoon of infantrymen. His destiny is a galactic war of unlimited violence and destruction, in which he and his fellow troopers scour the metal-strewn emptiness of space to hunt down a terrifying enemy – an insect life form which threatens the very future of mankind.

ROBERT A. HEINLEIN (1907 – 1988) was an American Science Fiction author. He won an unprecedented five Hugo awards for his many excellent novels and was named a Grand Master by the SFWA. Heinlein wrote short stories prior to WWII, entered the United States Navy and was discharged due to poor health. After WWII he began writing a series of popular novels affectionally known as “juveniles” – which tended to star young men or teens. Later, in the late 1950s and early 1960s he began a middle period, in which his protagonists confronted more societal based issues. In his lat career, the 1970s and 1980s he wrote novels about older, wiser, more opinionated men. But there were many exceptions. If you haven’t read Heinlein, you haven’t really read Science Fiction. The bulk of his impressive fiction is available as audiobooks, often in multiple versions.
