I thought this to be an excellent example of how to do a Doctor Who episode with characters given little screentime in the past. I admit, i don’t know much about the mechanoids (haven’t seen their original story) but their presence here is good, with that strange programmed voice. They have a degree of threat surrounding them which can be chilling at times. Of course, Molloy’s Davros is brilliant, sounding just as manic as he ever was. Colin Baker is fantastic (as usual) but Mel (Bonnie Langford) shines, presenting some true acting moments that she never got a chance to exhibit in the series. The plot is good, keeping me guessing throughout, and the plot twists (all brought in with The Trial of a Time Lord sting) made the hairs on my neck stand up. I thoroughly enjoyed this venture, and readily admit its one of my favourite audios. The only thing that bothers me (and this really is pernickity) is that the Daleks aren’t voiced by their original artist. Okay, Nicolas Briggs does a so-so job, but nothing can beat Roy Skelton.
